| ANAHEIM, Calif. (October, 18 2006) - On Thursday, October 5, the City of Anaheim named baker Theresa Torrealba of The Great Dane Baking Company in Los Alamitos, Calif., the grand prize winner of the Anaheim 150 Birthday Cake Contest. Torrealba has earned the exclusive privilege to design, build and decorate the City's 150th birthday cake themed "Always Fresh & Never Grows Old." The cake will be unveiled at the City's 150th Birthday Celebration on October 5, 2007. Contest runners-up included baker Roselili Santos from The Red Ribbon Bakeshop and baker Christina Sanchez from Disneyland Resort. Both the winner and the runners-up will have their creations featured on the City's website. Cakes were judged based on taste, presentation, creativity in the interpretation of the theme "birthday," and use of Anaheim's historic crops such as Valencia oranges, lemons, walnuts, grapes, boysenberries or the Anaheim chile. Cakes were judged by a panel of professional chefs and City officials including Chef Michael Bird, professor/executive chef of culinary arts for Cypress College, Anaheim White House owner Bruno Serato, Sesquicentennial Commissioner Jackie Terrell and all five Anaheim City Council members. The cake contest was held at the Anaheim 150 Kick-Off and City Hall Open House which began a 15-month long celebration of the City's sesquicentennial.
