Electric Utility Chief Engineer
The City of Moreno Valley (population just over 212,000) is a progressive and diverse city with a bright future. Strategically located in the western portion of Riverside County, Moreno Valley is about an hour’s drive east of Los Angeles, west of Palm Springs, and north of San Diego. While maintaining its friendly small-town attitude, the 50-square-mile community boasts big-city amenities including contemporary retail destinations and neighborhood shopping centers.

The City is seeking an Electric Utility Chief Engineer to oversee workflow and participate in the development of the Electric Utility’s work plan; projects and programs; and supervise the development and administration of the Utility. The Electric Utility Chief Engineer is a new position for the City within the Moreno Valley Utility under the Financial and Management Services Department. The position will be expected to play a critical role in the oversight and management of operations and engineering functions, in addition to serving as second-in-command for the Electric Utility.

Requirements Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will be a “big picture” thinker with excellent oral presentation skills and experience speaking with the City Council, Commissions, and developers and have a track record of leadership in the electric utility industry. He/she should have a vision for the future, be well versed in strategic planning, and the ability to develop strong teams.

In addition, the ideal candidate will be flexible, creative, and able to handle a variety of projects. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are a necessity as the selected candidate will make presentations on behalf of the division to the City Council and members of the public. An individual that inspires confidence and is a clear thinker will be effective in representing the division and the City.

A typical candidate will possess at seven (7) years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience, with at least two (2) of which were in a supervisory or program/project management capacity. Candidates for this position must possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university. A current, valid certification as an Electrical Engineer issued by the California State Licensing Board for Professional Engineers is required.
