Assistant Director of Utility Operations
Under the general direction of the Public Works and Utilities Director, directs, coordinates and supervise the activities and operations of the Electric and Water/Wastewater Utility Divisions; coordinates divisional activities with utility divisions and City departments, and outside agencies or organizations; provides professional, administrative and technical support to the Public Works and Utilities Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities listed below are only a sampling of the various types of work that may be performed.  Specifications are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job class and incumbents may expect to perform other related duties.
  • Accepts management responsibilities for activities, operations and services of the Electric Utility Divisions
  • Oversees and/or participates in the development, implementation and maintenance of the Electric and Water Utility Divisions goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
  • Makes all regulatory filings before the California Energy Commission and Air Resources Board.
  • Assists in monitoring and evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures.
  • May serve as technical advisor to the City Manager, City Council and department heads concerning water and wastewater operations.
  • Represents the City in various joint action agencies and lobbying groups.

Training and Experience
Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain this knowledge and abilities would be:

Education: A Bachelor's Degree in electric engineering, public or business administration, or a closely related field is required.  A Master's Degree is highly desired.


Experience: Five (5) years of directly related experience in electric and water/wastewater utility operations, including at least three (3) years of supervisory experience.  Experience in electric utility management is highly desired.

  • Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License issued by the California State Department of Motor Vehicles and good driving record.
