Utilities Engineering Estimator
The Utilities Engineering Estimator position is within the Electrical Engineering Division of the Utilities Department.  Two primary responsibilities of this position are to provide estimating functions in preparing plans for Electrical Utility Capital Improvement and customer service projects, and secondly, to prepare work orders indicating labor, material, and equipment requirements for construction by City personnel for a variety of projects.  Additional responsibilities include providing inspection services for construction projects, interfacing with contractors and consultants to ensure in-house and contract work conforms to plans and specifications and provide inter-utility coordination of project planning.

The ideal candidate will have:
  • Experience in underground and/or overhead line work
  • Proficient in AutoCAD
  • Proficient in GIS
  • Familiar with GO 95 and GO 128
  • Knowledge with NEC and/or CEC
Essential Duties
  • Conducts field review of project site to determine project design constraints
  • Prepares plans, specifications, and cost estimates for construction, operation, and maintenance of Electrical facilities
  • Process customer applications for utility services
  • Prepares detailed cost estimates of projects to be constructed by City forces or by contractors

Requirements Minimum Qualifications
Sufficient education, training and/or work experience to demonstrate possession of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities which would typically be acquired through:
  • Completion of two (2) years of college-level engineering courses in electrical engineering, or
  • Three (3) years or more experience in Electric Utility construction, depending upon assignment
  • Experience in estimating and field inspection
Special Requirements
Possession of a valid California Driver's License
